Bear Little Bear was always busy. If he wasn’t hunting, he was trapping. If he wasn’t trapping he was fishing. He never had time for friends or family or to visit his special spot in the woods.

“Maybe tomorrow” was something Little Bear said all the time.

When tomorrow would come he would do work instead . Friends would invite him for dinner but he was too busy. He really wanted to go but there was work to do. Soon people stopped asking him. He often thought about visiting his grandmother but work seemed to always come up.

One day, he found he did all the days work early. Little Bear couldn’t remember how long it has been since he has been to his grandmother’s or to his special spot in the woods. He found his special spot in the woods when he was trapping, it was a lovely clearing near the river. It was perfect, and relaxing. It even had some blueberry bushes.

He went to where his canoe was and pushed it into the water and jumped in. Little Bear’s feet went right through the bottom of the rotten canoe. Little Bear thought “was it really that long since I last used my canoe?” Apparently it had been because he was all wet. Quickly he changed and borrowed a friend’s canoe.

Down the river he paddled, sometimes letting the current take him down so he could relax and look at the banks of the river as it passed by. Little Bear was soon excited , as he knew his special area was close by. His smile changed and he saw the burn black trees and grass that used to be his spot.

He got out anyways and remembered what his clearing used to look like and where the blueberry bushes used to be. Now, everything was burnt by a fire. It was ruined and gone forever. He was sad. He closed his eyes and though about all the times he could have came here and done other things he wanted to but was too busy.

“Well, may as well head back home.”

As Little Bear got in the canoe and pushed off ready to head home, he suddenly realized that if you wait too long to do the things that truly make you happy then one day it maybe too late. Instead of heading home he went to his grandmother’s, who had just made a blueberry pie. From that day on Little Bear still worked hard but he made time to do the things he enjoyed. He came over for dinner when he was invited, and saw his grandmother more. He even found a new special place in the woods.
